King of all Monsters
Skyline
Not unlike Godzilla, Brett Mayes has a voracious appetite. However, instead of knocking over buildings and laying waste to helpless Japanese cities, Brett's affinity is for JDM horsepower. So he went and got himself the "Godzilla" of all JDM beasts... a Nissan Skyline GT-R 34.
Having previously owned the likes of Viper's, AMG's, and lastly an Evo 8, the B-Man is no stranger to serious horsepower. He and the guys at XS Engineering had his Evo running to the tune of 400whp on pump gas and over 540whp on race gas. "I drove the Evo for 2 years and loved it. But I wanted a car that would produce over 500 horses on pump gas so... I bought a Skyline." said Brett.
The car came out the container with some respectable work already done to it. Brett told me that "Aside from the Nismo N1 motor, it came equipped with upgraded hard pipes, cams, intercooler, ECU and clutch." He also mentioned that it dyno'd at 425 whp. Pretty reasonable numbers for most folk but Brett wanted to crush 500 horses like they were paper-mache models or something.
"After I upgraded the suspension, wheels, brake kit, stereo etc myself, I went to my boys Eric and Troy at XS for the motor work because they know Skyline's. (XS Engineering is located in Garden Grove, CA and it's true they do know Skyline's. In case you haven't heard of them you only need to visit their site at www.xs-engineering.com to see what we're talking about) "We started by putting bigger turbo's on and by our third pull on the dyno we had a rod knock." As they soon found out, that was due to an oil pump failure (a common problem with RB26's). Not good at all.
"When I knew I needed a rebuild, I said let's do this." So rather than just replace the oil pump, and rod, Team XS cracked open the motor and upgraded the pistons, put in some new Tomei cams, a ported and polished XS Engineering head complete with Cosworth valve springs and all the supporting mods. "At that point we had the car producing 530whp. "Eric and Troy told me that if I opened up the exhaust to at least 3.5" from the downpipe back, I could add about 50 more horses, so I did." Brett had his man Joey Lumpkin at Full Race (www.full-race.com) produce what he calls "The World's Greatest Exhaust". He calls it that because not only does this custom one-off fabricated system produce great gains, it's also quiet and tucked up nice and neatly under the car.

Very nice GT-R you have there, a lot of tasty mods as well. What I like most is the black wheels on the silverpaint, very Z-Tune'esque.

Dude you have the taste for cars that runs deep within this community. I am loving the clean stock look of the car yet it still screams power and attitude. I have a few question about the car but I would rather discuss that at a later date. Keep the GT-R love strong.
