June 22, Long Beach Convention Center, CA
This was my first year attending the SPOCOM USA event and it reminded me of what HIN looks like with the lights up but not nearly as noisy. Which...ahem, as you get a little older you will learn to appreciate. For me, the fact that I could actually carry on a proper conversation with someone without having to scream at the top of my lungs was quite a welcome change. Believe it or not, I could even here my cell phone when it rang.
SPOCOM USA also reminded me of the old SEMA IAS shows. For those of you unfamiliar with SEMA's now defunct International Auto Salon, they were an annual tradition that at first were only held on the west coast. However SEMA, in their infinite wisdom, decided maybe there was more money to be made back east so they moved IAS to the always lovely and charming Atlantic City, NJ. I'll never forget the nights I spent stumbling around "The Donald's" Marina casino at 3AM with a Vodka soda in one hand and a Jack and Coke in the other looking for loose change someone may have left behind in a slot machine before thinking to myself "Come on man, this is Jersey... end it."
