Drifting
I love the fact all the old Motorsports fogies are still saying that Drifting is just a fad; that it’s going to disappear as quickly as it came to North America. Guess again suckers. With more media coverage and new series’ popping up all over the planet, this sport is still on the grow so deal with it.
The Formula Drift press conference at SEMA this year drew some of the biggest crowds in the world of PR. FD announced some really cool shit that’ll be hitting the fans in’08 including along with an expanded schedule and not 1, but 2 TV programs in the works.
The sport of Drifting is being felt far and wide with some A-list pro drivers from "traditional" racing series participating in the sport earlier this year. Throw in a few C-list celebrities getting into the act and we’ve got ourselves a real barn burner.
Next year: look for more teams, crashes and chaos. Rumor has it that more car manufacturers are looking to get into the game (yes I’m talking about you BMW), but we still don’t really know what all the smoke is about.

WRC Rally
This year we witnessed an incredible season full of triumph and sadness. It was great to see once more the heated battles between Marcus Grönholm and Sebastien Loeb for the championship. Ford is leaving the door open for Grönholm to come back from retirement if he chooses but that’s a long shot at this point.
With the passing of Colin McRae, the next generation of rally fans will only be able to catch moments of his greatness on DVD and through the video game series that bear his name. Colin was a great ambassador to the sport and will be missed.
Yeah, we know… it totally sucks that Speed doesn’t broadcast the World Rally Championship any more but get over it. Stop crying and just go buy the DVDs or move to a country that does broadcast the series.
Next year: Look for the Citroen/Loeb dominance to continue and the emergence of US Rally in the media with Travis Pastrana running a full PWRC season and Ken Block leading the charge here stateside wherever he can jump that Scooby.
