So you wanna be a race car driver? You think you have talent? Riiight.
Normally I’d say that if you are that one-in-a-million talent that eventually, you will get discovered and possibly, you might be able to make a career out of it. Even then, I’d be lying. Do the math: 22 drivers are in F1, less than 20 in IRL and Champ Car each and another 45 or so in NASCAR. That is just over 100 people that get paid handsomely to race cars; out of the entire population!
It takes a lot of innovation to stay in the hunt. Oh, and money. Lots of it. I’ve been working with Tarzan Yamada for almost two years now and we’re constantly exploring new ways to deliver value to sponsors. Most of what they want is good, consistent media exposure. How do you get that media exposure? By doing well on the track. Sometimes that works, most of the time it doesn’t. Tarzan and I decided to create the Dragon Drivers to produce what sponsors want in the first place: compelling stories in the media.
Dragon Drivers is essentially a reality show cast consisting of Tarzan, Hoko Ohno—a prominent race queen, and a couple newer driver’s that’ll be announced in a few weeks. The Dragon Driver cast will participate in racing activities all over the world, including SuperGT, Super Taikyu, time attack, professional road racing and drifting. There’s even a chance we’ll attempt a new land speed record.
This isn’t a team that has a trailer and participates in a series, like you would expect. This is a group of individuals that will provide you with an unprecedented look behind the scenes of JDM racing. You’ll even be able get a peek at the closed world of race queens. Where and how you ask? Check out riceboytv.com in upcoming months to see the exclusive video footage. And hopefully we’ll make it back on to the pages of Carbon8 as well…
